"The CGC s a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club."

Great Dog K9 Training is registered with the AKC to administer the CGC test and offers training to pet dog owners interested in participating in it in the form of "CGC- Basic". This program consists of the following:

1.) Leash Training / Handler Awareness

2.) Sit / Sit Stay

3.) Down / Down Stay

4.) Door Training (Conditioning your dog not to bolt through open doors)

5.) Heel / Heel to Side

6.) Come When Called

7.) Preperation for the test

8.) Preperation for the test

9.) Mock test

Elements of the test are introduced into each lesson so that participants can identify areas that most need work. Lesson sheets are then provided to address problem areas. Whenever possible, lessons are conducted outdoors with other dogs present to help condition you and your dog to working in an enviroment similar to a real CGC test.
